HISTORY
Pete Luckett began selling produce as a teenager at Victoria Market in Nottingham, England. After years of learning the business, he relocated to Saint John, New Brunswick. Luckett opened his fruit and vegetable stand in 1982 and quickly became something of a local legend for his unique and charismatic greengrocer flare.
In 2012, after having worked at Pete’s for nearly two decades, the business was sold to Darren Lavigne, who upholds its founding spirit: friendly service, specialty products, and the finest and freshest produce. The shop is now called The City Market Greengrocer.

Darren is a Saint Johner, through and through. If you’ve ever strolled through the City Market, you’ve seen his friendly face. He’s there each day, bright and early, unboxing fresh produce and preparing beautiful displays.
He's been doing this for thirty years, and thanks to his loyal customers, his motivation has not wavered: “the buzz of the market in the morning and the people who shop locally are a huge perk. It really can’t be matched or replicated.”
Not only does Darren know his products, but he’ll remember you by name, along with the item you were looking for last week. He attributes his knowledge and passion to the mentorship of former owner Geoff Lander.
In 2012, Darren purchased the business from Lander, and has been serving Saint John with warmth and enthusiasm since.
